Well…everything!
As a first-time author I found the project as a whole very challenging. It was so important to me to do the story justice. I tried to portray the main character in a very real and honest way, at the risk of believability perhaps. But I wanted the reader to experience her innocence and her vulnerability and how all of that may have influenced her choices. I also wanted to portray the relationship from a broad lens and not just from a negative angle. There were good times woven amongst the bad. So yes, everything was the hardest part!
But if I were to narrow that down, yes, there were a few chapters in particular that were very difficult to write, certain details that were buried the deepest. It was hard to revisit them, but it was different this time. This time I was safe, and that safety is what allowed me to go there and get it down on paper.
No One in Their Right Mind is a revealing account of my 15 years with a narcissist.
